Is your trainer Qualified? What does a certification mean to a Personal Training Client?

It shows a commitment to the profession and a base level of competency and knowledge. It Shows the Personal Trainer has taken the time to study exercise physiology, biomechanics, safety, psychology and motivation. To maintain a quality certification, trainers need to update their skills with continuing education courses – important, because fitness science is unfolding with new information all the time.

Was your Personal Trainer a Plumber last Month?

But Being qualified is not the only thing you need to look out for. Ask your Personal Trainer how long they have been working in the industry. Some Personal Training Certification Providers offer express or intensive qualification routes that mean your Personal Trainer although Certified could have been a plumber or car mechanic  a couple of months ago. This is the difference between being certified and qualified to Personal Train people it takes working with people and Personal Training them to truly change from certified to Qualified.

To put this into another industry a recently qualified hairdresser can cut your hair but would they be as good as an experienced hairdresser who has the same level of certification.

Check if your Personal Trainer is Qualified?

In the UK over the last few years the easiest way to check if your Personal Trainer is Certified is to check with the Register of Exercise Professionals. This is often shortened to REPS. Please note that some of the most respected American qualifications do not Rank on the Register but are in fact of a higher standard and harder to achieve than some of the courses provided by UK based Training Organisations.

As well as being Certified and qualified it is important that you pick a Personal Trainer you get on with and that provides with a quality level of customer service.
